The film opens in 2016 B.C. with Sarman and Hojo and their friends, youths from the ancient village of Amri, traveling in a boat down a narrow river gorge. When attacked by three large man-eating crocodiles Sarman valiantly spears and kills the largest one. They carry it back to the village where they are hailed as heroes. Sarman is unable to sleep: having lost his parents when very young, he is still haunted by a strange tune his aunt hums most days, he sees dreams and visions of a strange one-horned animal and of the large city of Mohenjo Daro.
Despite his uncle’s repeated protests Sarman decides to go to Mohenjo Daro. His uncle, resigned, advises him that Mohenjo Daro is a harsh city and that Sarman must be careful whom to trust. His uncle gives him an amulet to be used only in a life or death situation. (Sarman discovers that the amulet contains an inscription of the one-horned animal of his dreams, this animal is also the emblem of the city of Mohenjo Daro.)
Hrithik Roshan’s Mohenjo daro takes us back in 2016 BC, when the decisions were taken based on majority of votes of heads of respective fields. The film started well by depicting barter system [exchange of goods & services] in Mohenjo daro market place where ‘Sarman’ hrithik roshan is one of the ‘Vyapari’ and sells neel, where he saw Chaani (played by Pooja hegde) & mesmerized by her presence (the daughter of poojari). The love story between Sarman & Chaani began when he entered the restricted area & saved Chaani from horse’s attacks. The shock value was added when he get to know that Chaani’s faith is already decided when she was born & it is to tie a knot with Moonja [Maham’s son & would be pradhaan]. Sarman made her realize that she should marry the one she loves, rather than fulfilling promises taken by her father years back. The drama took a high when Sarman agree to take the deadly challenge of pradhaan in return of Chaani’s freedom from marring his son. What happens next is extremely heartbreaking, blood on the floors & real action stored in for the viewers.
Apart from the love story the film also shows the misuse of power by Maham (Pradhaan), how the ‘baandh’ on sindhu nadhi has been created in order to take advantage of the gold beneath the surface.
Performance, Script writing & Storytelling:
Inspite of good performances by stars like Hrithik roshan, Pooja Hegde, Kabir Bedi & Arunoday Singh, Infront of films like bajirao mastani or bahubali, Mohenjo daro fails to impress. The major fault lies in the weak script & excessive focus on building unnecessary love story instead of focusing on the historical cultural values & uniqueness of Mohenjo daro. Hrithik roshan’s connection to Mohenjo daro & the suspense isn’t exciting enough to engage the viewers. Hrithik roshan fans will enjoy his presence and magical persona, apart from it there is nothing much in the film.
The films music by A. R. Rahman, Arijit Singh, Bela Shende,Sanah Moidutty. The lyrics is outdated and college goes &; youngsters & viewers demand a modern, trending music &; lyrics.
